Nature Impressions
Art and text by: Marie Christine Sipin

The beauty of nature always fascinates us. Luckily, capturing its beauty and charm can be as easy as pie!

Have you ever seen the fossilized imprint of a delicate leaf or shell? How about the pattern on tree bark? Nature has been leaving its own unique prints and images since the beginning of time.

Let's make impressions and patterns from different leaves and flowers. The whole process will take only a minute, compared to hours should you choose to use a brush instead!

Gather a collection of things you would like to print like leaves, twigs, branches, stalks, barks, roots and flower petals. Choose leaves with attractive patterns and deep veins. Don't be afraid to try as many unusual stuff and textures!

To make your imprint, paint some ink over your leaf then gently press it on to the paper. Make sure you get as much of the ink transferred on to your paper. With your fingertips, gently pat or stroke the leaf evenly to achieve the desired effect. Slowly peel the leaf away from the paper to see the wonderful design!

Variations:
  1. To make your picture more interesting, you can draw little details such as butterflies, bees and dragonflies.
  2. You can also paste or add on petals, seedpods, dried leaves and the like for more texture.
  3. Stamp your creation to one side of the paper only, then fold and make it into a card.
  4. Repeat a particular pattern over a big sheet of paper and use it for wrapping your gifts, books, and utility boxes.
  5. Have mommy or daddy frame your masterpiece and use it as a wall décor!
Have fun! Remember to take care of our forests. Recycle, conserve and always keep clean.

We don't want to see only imprints in the future.
