Loboc boatIn times when the tarsier roamed in large numbers, they favored the forests that lined the banks of the Loboc River. After a night of hunting, they crouched by its muddy bank and drank from its sweet clean water. Today, they still do, although not in the same numbers. They now share the banks with people that live along the river and depend on it for their sustenance whether it be for food or money. The humans that live by the river own bancas and floating restaurants that bring tourists up the river as far as the boulders that lock further progress for the humans in their boats. But the river flows through the rifts and overflows over the boulders in mini waterfalls. For those who prefer to go down the river, the river flows into the Bohol Sea, the gate to islands beyond.

Loboc Falls

The people of Loboc love their river and as much as have been able to keep it pristine. It is the color of turquoise, of jade, of sky and sear. In some places, one can see clear through to the bottom and admire the aquatic plants that grow freely and in abudnance. The children of Loboc love their river the most. Most days, they can be found frolicking in its cool, clean waters. Hopefully, they will keep the river as such for their children and their children's children.
