After many weeks, all the animals
of the valley got together and
complained about Rex.
"Someone should put that
dinosaur in his place!"
Tricerotops cried.
"Just because heıs big
doesnıt mean he can bully us
around!" Dragonfly pointed
out. The rest of the animals
agreed.
Just then, Rex crept up behind them and roared his fiercest roar! You can imagine how
much this startled the assembly of animals. "Boy! You guys sure canıt take a
joke!" Rex laughed at the frowning animals.
"Why do you like scaring us so much?" Stegasaurus said as his cheeks twitched
with anger. "Don't you know what it feels like to be scared?"
"No." Rex replied. "Come to think of it, I don't."
"Well it doesnıt feel nice!" Tricerotops said.
"Really?" Rex scratched his belly. "I thought it was pretty fun."
It was then that Dragonfly had a brilliant idea. "Maybe if we teach Tyrannosaurus
Rex what it means to be scared, he will think twice before scaring us again!"
"That's a great idea!" Rex said clapping his hands, "But how can you
guys scare me? Youıre all so small, and your teeth aren't as big as mine!"
"We wonıt be the ones to scare you, Rex." Dragonfly smiled. "If you
want to know what it means to be scared, you must go to the top of that mountain. There
you will find a cave."
"And is that where I will find the thing that will scare me?"
"Correct." Dragonfly nodded.
So without wasting time, Tyrannosaurus Rex went out to look for the thing that would
teach him what it meant to be scared. He spent one entire day climbing the mountain. The
wind grew cold and Rex was all alone. Still he was not afraid. By night time, he found the
cave. Rex was so high up, that the cave was covered by clouds. He walked past the vaporous
mist into total darkness. Rex could not see a single thing. All he could sense was a slow
and steady dripping sound. Still he was not afraid.
Soon Rex saw a light ahead of him. He made his way down the caverns until he reached a
small catacomb full of glowing stalagtites. Beneath these spikes was a pool of water. Rex
noticed that water dripped down from the tip of the stalagtites into the pool under them.
Rex felt so thirsty that he decided to take a drink from the pool. To his surprise, the
water was very sweet! He lapped up the delicious liquid until nothing was left of the
pool.
Rex reached his tongue to catch the droplets from the stalagtites. But the drops were
coming much too slow for Rex! He decided to munch on the stalagtites themselves!
"Hey! These spikes taste pretty sweet as well!" Rex cried in delight. So he
munched on the stalagtites until he finished every one of them! Soon Rex's tummy was so
bloated that he decided to go home. He may not have learned what it meant to be scared,
but he sure got a great meal out of his trip.
The animals were waiting for Rex at the bottom of the mountain when he marched down
that afternoon.
"He doesnıt look scared." Velociraptor observed. "If anything, he looks
sort of fat."
Dragonfly said nothing.
"Hi friends!" Rex greeted, waving his arms at the group. "I just had a
wonderful me--owwww!" Rex stopped short, and reached for his mouth as his eyes began
to tear.
"Whatıs the matter, Rex?" Velociraptor said.
"Owwwww!" Rex drooled. "Something in my mouth hurts!"
"Open wide!" Dragonfly said. "I'll go in and check out what's bothering
you."
Rex did as he was told. Dragonfly hovered among Rex's teeth, and came back out.
"No doubt about it!" he said. "Rex has cavitites!" The animals
gasped.
"Well, if it's a tooth-ache you've got," Velociraptor smiled, "you know
where you have to go."
"W-where?" Rex gulped.
"The Dentistsaurus, of course." Tricerotops couldnıt help but grin.
The pearly white smiles on every animal made Rex very uneasy. An unfamiliar feeling
then crept into his heart. It made him tremble, and his forehead started to sweat.
"I donıt feel so good," he said, as his knees turned to rubber.
"There," Dragonfly said. "Now you know what fear is."
"How terrible!" Rex cried. And cried. And cried.
All the animals felt sorry for Rex, so they accompanied him to the Dentistsaurus. It
was the worst day of Rexıs life because the Dentistsaurus had to perform a root canal on
Rex. Even the animals shuddered at the sight of the procedure. But that was what Rex got
for munching on sugary stalagtites. Fortunately when it was all over, Rex did feel much
better.
"Next time," the doctor explained, "avoid eating so many sweets. If you
do, be sure to brush your teeth!"
With that said, the Dentistsaurus gave Rex an "Angled-Bristle Toothbrush",
some "Spicy Mint Toothpaste" and a polka-dotted balloon. He then waved good-bye
and sent the animals on their way.
So after learning what it meant to be scared, Tyrannosaurus Rex lost the urge to
frighten his friends. He chose to play friendlier games with them, which turned out to be
much more fun. Tyrannosaurus also tried his very best not to eat too many sweets.
Especially Rock candies.
The End.
