BANTAY KALIKASAN: SAVING THE WATERSHED FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW

Much of the information for the article on “Where Does the Rain Go?” was from Mr. Marlo D. Mendoza, Program Director of Bantay Kalikasan, the environmental arm of the ABS-CBN Foundation and the “Save the La Mesa Watershed Project”. Their goal is to plant trees of different Philippine varieties on 1,200 hectares of the watershed. Since June 1999, Bantay Kalikasan has planted 300 hectares to trees, 90% of which are growing into tall, healthy trees.

Bantay Kalikasan’s ultimate goal is a responsibly protected and preserved Philippine environment where future generations of Filipinos can lead a better quality of life. Its other projects are:

* The “Bantay Usok Project”
* The Bantay Baterya Project”
