Water's Edge
|
By:
Debbie Ann Tan
After a long trip
Iım standing eye level to
the rising gold sun.
The sun hides shyly
behind the horizon of
the wavy water.
My feet touches sand
moving forward to the beach
as the light lures me.
But Iım so surprised
the whitish-gray sand is rough
Twigs under my feet.
Jagged dark pebbles
wedge between toes and digits
They make me walk fast.
Quickly to the waves
where salty sea will soothe me
from tiring journey.
How warmly they greet,
those swooshing sounds like "hello"
I'm near water's edge.
Wind shoves waves to me
They meet my feet with cool touch
Sweep these pebbles off.
Water around my knees
I struggle hard for balance
My feet digging sand.
One big wave knocks me
I fall back to sit on sand
They're playing with me.
I'm wet from neck down
But having fun pushing waves
They catch and tickle.
Waves flatten my hair
They win our game of catch-push
Nature humbles me.
I'm peacefully pleased
Rocked by gentle wind and waves
I'm convinced to stay.
Now, the sun is high
It sees me as speck of sand
on a vast raw beach.
