"Lito's Lantern" by ROB C. RUBINA, JR.   Illustrated by JO ANN BEREBER

Lito fetching waterand feeding the chickens

He went to fetch water at the well five kilometers from their house to fill their banga. Then Lito fed the chickens in the backyard and gave the pigs in their pen their slops. Right after the Angelus, Lito helped his mother prepare dinner. Soon after, Itay arrived from work and together with Inay and Lito sat down to eat a dinner of boiled kangkong and tuyo. "Let us first thank the Lord for this blessings..." prayed Itay. After saying their prayers,
Inay admonished Itay and Lito,

"Do not eat greedily! Leave some for tomorrow's breakfast. Lito, why did you cook all the kangkong?
Go out after dinner and get more at the river for tomorrow's breakfast."
"Yes, Inay."
