With
nothing to do the rest of the
day
I sat in the garden with my
niece to play
We talked about turtles and
her lucky ring
And she had so many questions
on so many things.
Why
does the sun set? Where does
it go?
Kenny can make his ears wiggle,
you know.
Do you want to see my magic
whistle?
Did you also have one when you
were little?
Do
you know how to cast a sleeping
spell?
Do wishes come true when wished
on a well?
Then she told me stories of
princes and kings
Of faraway castles and blue-fairy
wings.
As
darkness covered her pink-purple
sky
She taught me this song she
called "Rock-a-Bye"
She said it's what she sings
when she cannot sleep
Because it's so much easier
than counting sheep.
It's
almost dinner, time to go inside,
I bent down to give her a piggy
back ride
But she gave me a hug, and whispered
instead,
You'll always be this little
girl's best friend.
